How We Conceptualize This Custom Wine Cellar Door in a Dining Room in Orange County
Our client enjoyed working with our wine cellar expert team on a previous home project. They were so impressed by their exceptional expertise, professionalism, and sincerity that they decided to rehire us for this project. With the Custom Wine Cellar team’s skills and attention to detail, you can trust that your wine collection will be showcased stunningly and captivatingly.
In this custom wine cellar door, our team decided to use glass panels and a double glass door as a front enclosure to protect the wine collection, conserve the cool temperature, and match the modern racks inside the home wine room.
Although single-paned glass is generally recommended for wine cellars, we use double-paned tempered glass with H-shape weather strips for sealing and soundproofing. This was done to prevent condensation and moisture formation inside the glass wine cellar, which could potentially harm the bottle corks and labels. Clamp hinges hold the glass panels together and are commonly used for indoor glass doors. For the door handle, we chose a sleek stainless steel, matte black H-shape pull handle that looked great against the glass.
Metal Wine Racking Style for Home Wine Display
Our client’s house in Dana Point was designed to have a contemporary and calming ambiance, combining cement, glass, and wood. With an open floor plan that allows a clear view of the home’s different areas, the wine cellar had to match the house’s overall aesthetic and be as visually appealing as the rest of the space.
The team opted for a modern metal racking to achieve the desired contemporary wine cellar. They customized the wine rack with a black satin finish to give it a formal appearance. These metal racks are W-shaped and have grooves on the rods. The rods are secured onto a backer bar of the same material, and the tips have rubber finishing caps for safety. The metal backer bars were then mounted on a sturdy wooden wall.
The cellar has a pair of modern, W-shaped metal wine racks that can hold 27 rows of bottles. The team installed three pairs of these racks on the left side and three pairs on the right side of the cellar. Thanks to the racks’ triple-deep capacity, this cellar’s entire metal racking system can accommodate up to 486 bottles of wine. We can customize the racks to fit your needs if you have a different space size.
The modern wine cellar racking gave the impression that the bottles were floating, while the floating shelves kept the upright bottles as stunning as the others on the metal wine racks.
Contemporary Wooden Wine Storage Shelves
The home’s interior utilized a significant amount of white oak, and the team carried on this theme by incorporating wood into the cellar’s cabinetry, open shelves, and backer boards. In addition to the metal wine racking, the team added custom floating wooden shelves and drawers at the center of the wine room to enhance the cellar’s modern aesthetic.
The owner’s meticulous attention to detail meant that variation was crucial for this wine room. The team fixed the contemporary wooden shelves onto the wall with rectangular glass mosaic tiles, which complemented the wine cellar lighting and reflected light beautifully, creating a striking visual impact in the cellar and dining room.
Upon completion of the project, the client was pleasantly surprised and thrilled with the outcome. He was eager to showcase the wine cellar to his loved ones and friends, as it’s the perfect conversation starter.
Exquisite Lighting System for Modern Wine Cellar
Another feature that sets residential custom wine cellars apart from the rest is the lighting design. We also plan for good lighting to highlight a wine cellar’s best features. Aside from this home’s modern wine room racks, the team believed that putting in simple, 2-inch recessed can lights could make a difference.
The wine cellar lighting is LED to avoid excessive heat (typical in regular fluorescent lamps). Additionally, LED lights come in more colors, allowing the designers to create a mellow yet dramatic look. The owners could also adjust the lights’ brightness through a control panel outside the cellar.
The Ideal Best Wine Cellar Refrigeration System for Framed and Frameless Doors
Maintaining a consistent temperature and humidity level in the wine cellar is crucial, so you need a durable wine refrigeration system that works effectively throughout the year.
At Custom Wine Cellars, we consider the wine cellar’s heat load and cooling requirements before choosing a suitable wine cellar cooling system. After calculating the necessary factors, Steve determined that the best option for this space was the commercial-grade split-type cooling system, where the condenser and evaporator are separate.
The condenser was installed outside the house, and the evaporator was mounted on the ceiling behind a perforated wooden grille. The evaporator produces minimal sound, ensuring it does not significantly affect the bottles.
