Perfect Glass Wine Cellar Doors for Your Residential Wine Cellars in California
The Custom Wine Cellar team has constructed numerous wine cellars in California, but this one is exceptional for its elegant yet straightforward glass wine cellar doors.
Our team had ample space to build this walk-in wine room from the ground up since the house was newly constructed. We emphasized glass wine cellar doors to achieve an excellent wine display inside their home.
At Custom Wine Cellar, we always ensure that the wine cellar matches the home’s interior. We want the wine cellar to exhibit the same character and style as the homeowner. Since the home was modeled after the sunny and breezy Tuscan countryside, our team wanted the rustic wine cellar design to look as natural as possible. Therefore, we used hardwood for the wine racking and natural stone tiles for the flooring.
Besides being aesthetically pleasing, natural stone tiles, such as Terracotta, are ideal for wine cellars due to their mold and bacteria-resistant properties when placed in a controlled environment.
Embracing the Essence of Having Glass Wine Cellar Doors

Residential Wine Cellars’ Worthwhile Components
When it comes to wine racks, custom-built ones offer more flexibility in terms of design compared to pre-assembled or kit racks. Not sure about the design? No worries! Our team of consultants at Custom Wine Cellar can help you create 3D drawings and brainstorm unique design ideas to showcase your wine collection in the best way possible.
For this homeowner’s residential wine cellar, we needed to accommodate various drink sizes, from standard bottles to larger ones up to 1500ml, as well as stemware and decanting tools. We designed a wooden wine rack with a diverse set of partitions to meet these needs and allow for future wine collections.
Look at our gallery to see the different compartment styles we can offer:
- Diamond bins
- Horizontal racks for standard bottles
- Horizontal racks for magnum bottles
- Cubbies for wine crates
- High-Reveal shelves
- Three and three-fourth-sized (3 ¾) single cubicles for 750s, champagnes, and burgundies
- Drawers and cabinets with sub-closing hinges
- Under-counter wine glass racks
- Decanting area
The wine rack’s mix of storage styles didn’t detract from its overall beauty and instead made it a stunning centerpiece for the entire cellar. With a capacity of up to 900 750ml bottles and 16 magnums, this floor-to-ceiling rack is a testament to the beauty and functionality of great design.
Odorless Finish for Wooden Wine Racks
The storage styles of our wine cellar were meticulously designed, and we put in a great deal of effort to ensure that the wood material looked, felt, and smelled perfect. White ripped oak was the perfect choice, and it was finished with wax polish instead of lacquer to match the off-white aesthetic of the room’s exterior.
We chose wax to guarantee the safety of everyone present as it provides a shiny finish without the pungent smell that lacquer has. The room’s ventilation and drying time of the polish determined the choice between lacquer and wax, and we were confident that wax was the best choice for our wine cellar.
Glass Wine Cellar Doors California: How Experts Fulfilled the Client’s Preferences
Glass wine cellar doors come in three types: wood-framed, metal-framed, or frameless. In this wine cellar, the team used stainless steel to frame the door and glass walls.
Choosing a metal-framed glass enclosure was the perfect decision as it highlighted the wooden wine racks and kept the glass panels visible between the similarly-colored wine room and the entertainment room outside (to avoid accidents!).
The glass panels were custom-made to be highly durable and thick, with double-paned and tempered glass, to ensure that condensation does not develop inside the cellar no matter how hot it gets outside. With this kind of glass wine cellar door, you can be confident that the temperature and humidity levels inside your cellar will remain stable all year round.
Enhance the Aesthetics of Your Wine Cellar with Beautiful Wine Cellar Lighting
There are many LED lights available in the market for your wine cellar. To choose the right one, consider the location of your wine collection in the cellar, including your metal or rustic wooden wine racks. When you install lighting for your cellar, it’s essential to balance aesthetics and functionality.
Lights not only help you safely navigate your wine closet but also allow you to showcase some of your wines. For example, you can install ribbon lights along the high-reveal shelves to highlight the display. High-reveal shelves present the bottles in an inclined, label-forward manner, like how wine sommeliers introduce wines to their customers. The ribbon lights provide more light onto the bottles, allowing people to scan the labels.
