Custom Wine Racks with a Traditional Touch in a Tuscan-inspired Home
In a Tuscan home, there is a beautiful wooden wine-racking system that perfectly complements the timeless and classy design of the house. The team that built this custom wine cellar aimed to enhance the organic and rustic feel of the client’s home.
This customized traditional wine rack offers a significant advantage in terms of storage options. It can be designed with various wooden compartments in different configurations. This rustic wine cellar design incorporates five (5) different types of compartments: Diamond bins, horizontal display racks for 750 ml bottles, high reveal shelves, cubbies for wine boxes, and three ¾ cubicles that can accommodate standard 750s in a cork-forward way, including burgundies and champagnes.
A custom arch was built in the center of the first rack to add an element of interest, and a spacious stemware holding area was added to the other rack. This is where the owners can pour their wines, take a sip, or create cocktails using other liquors from their collection.
Our team used white oak, which they then waxed instead of applying lacquer. This was because lacquer could leave an unpleasant odor, even days after application, which the client strongly disapproved of. Using wax instead, the wooden wine racking was preserved and polished without the unwanted odor.
We designed the wine racking system to maximize the bottle capacity of the wine cellar. The various designs and orientations included cork-forward racks, diamond bins, wine shelves, horizontal display racks, and an area specifically for storing wine cases.
The team strategically placed LED strips on channels along the racks to highlight the client’s wine collection.
Alder Wood Turned into Stylish Floor-to-Ceiling Custom Wooden Wine Racks
This wine rack is designed to be split in half, each side being a mirror image of the other. Examining one half, you’ll see a column consisting of four vertical shelves and two rows of high-reveal racks near the glass panels.
All the vertical shelves in this wine cellar have Acrylic L.E.D Boards, which beautifully illuminate the bottles. The owner has placed various types of liquor, such as vodka, gin, and others, on these shelves. You can check out our gallery for more examples.
The second column has standard 750 racks and two high-reveal racks like the first. The third column starts with cubbies at the bottom, followed by standard 750 compartments, high reveal racks, and triple-deep horizontal racks for magnums at the top. The central column has a diamond bin at the bottom, a stylish decanting table, and triple-deep horizontal magnum racks at the top.
We built a marble countertop for the decanting table and added some stemware racks to hang wine glasses. We have also decorated the backdrop of the decanting table with an artistic masterpiece that the owners brought in from Napa Valley.
Gorgeous Black-Stained Wooden Wine Racking Built in a Modern Home
This custom wine cellar boasts a neat and modern design with symmetrical wooden racking. The racks on the left and right sides meet at a right angle, while the horizontal racks stack at both ends.
The vertical racks are positioned in the center, with labels facing outward. Square bins above the wine racking system hold ten cork-forward bottles each, and single-deep, cork-forward racks sit on the left side of the bins.
A dark-stained Alderwood center table is available for decanting and enjoying wines, with wine cases stored underneath. This elegant glass wine cellar can accommodate up to 616 bottles, thanks to the highly efficient and visually impressive modern wine racking system.
Our designers utilized Alderwood to construct a stunning transitional wooden wine cellar racking system that exudes natural beauty and sophistication. We preferred Alderwood’s unique grain pattern and dark stain application, the perfect combination for this build.
The intricate grain pattern of the Alderwood was brought to life by the dark stain, creating an impressive visual effect that is both elegant and polished. The addition of LED lighting not only enhances the overall presentation of the wine cellar but also highlights the light tones of the wooden back panel, adding to the overall impressive look of the wine cellar.
With Alderwood and proper wine cellar lighting, the wine cellar has been transformed into a true masterpiece that will impress all who enter.
Minimalist Wooden Racking for a Contemporary Home Wine Cellar
We decided to use a light brown-colored wood species for this custom home wine room to brighten up the relatively tight space. The walls were cream in color, so the slightly darker shade of the wine racks created a great contrast.
The racks were configured to display bottles in cork-forward and inclined label-forward positions. We call them the standard 750 racks and the high reveal racks, respectively. Although the room’s height was standard, we built the racks from floor to ceiling to maximize the available space.

To access the wine room, one must open a glass door framed by wood. The decision to use a glass door was practical, as the room is relatively small. The glass door creates a more open atmosphere, allowing a clear view of the cellar without requiring entry. The wooden custom wine racks are prominently displayed, adding to the room’s aesthetic appeal.
